Goodwin has served as rector since 2015.

Gov. Terry McAuliffe (D) announced appointments to the University’s Board of Visitors on Friday, with current Rector William H. Goodwin Jr. absent from the list.

Board members Kevin Fay and Frank Genovese were also not reappointed, while John Griffin was chosen to return to the Board until 2021.

Goodwin was already in talks to step down as the rector of the Board of Visitors, but was still eligible to serve as a normal member on the Board for another four-year term.

Former Gov. Bob McDonnell (R) appointed Goodwin in 2013. Goodwin became rector in 2015 after serving two years as vice rector. He also previously served on the Board between 1996 and 2004.

Frank M. Conner III, the current vice rector, will serve as Goodwin’s successor as the rector following his departure.

McAuliffe also appointed three new members to the Board — Robert Blue, Robert Hardie and Maurice Jones.

Blue, from Richmond, serves as the president and CEO of Dominion Energy’s Power Delivery Group, while Hardie, from Charlottesville, is the co-chairman and CEO of H7 Holdings, LLC and Goodwin’s son-in-law. Jones is the president and CEO of Local Initiatives Support Corporation and is from New York City.
