Searching for gold

All students are on a quest. Some search for meaning in their lives while others search for edible food in their refrigerators. Other students, who have purchased meal plans, are eligible to search for the answers to University Dining Service's questions in its latest promotion -- the scavenger hunt.

The first Extreme Scavenger Hunt, presented by University Dining Services, will take students on a wild goose chase through each on-Grounds dining facility in search of the answers to 30 questions.

Students who answer all 30 questions have the chance to win a $1,000 trip to a destination of the winner's choice.

Questions include "Name a wrap from Newcomb Dining Hall's Granary" and "How many cold cereals are offered on any given day?"

The complete list of questions are on the Internet, at www.virginia.edu/~dining.

Four tiebreaker questions are included at the bottom of the question list in case more than one student has answered the first 30 questions correctly.

If more than one person has correctly answered all 30 questions and has produced the four tiebreaker signatures listed at the end of the questions, University Dining Services will hold a drawing to determine the winner.

"We wanted to get students, especially the new students, into each dining facility within the first few weeks of school," said Christie Welborn, marketing director for University Dining Services.

But the contest is not just for first-year students. Upperclassmen also can benefit.

"Depending on where you live, you might not know about all the places you can dine," Welborn said. "We want to get people acquainted with dining services."

Students who have meal plans are encouraged to print the questions from University Dining Service's web site, answer the questions, and return the completed form to any dining hall or to the University Dining Services' office in the lower level of Observatory Hill by 5 p.m. tomorrow.

The winners will be announced in dining halls during "Treasure Island" theme night, Sept. 23.
