After setting a school record with 474 yards of total offense against Maryland, Georgia Tech quarterback Joe Hamilton captured ACC Offensive Back of the Week honors for the second time this season.
Hamilton, a top candidate for the Heisman Trophy, definitely helped his cause Thursday as he threw for 387 yards and three touchdowns while rushing for 87 yards on 13 carries. That rushing output included a 41-yard scramble for a touchdown, helping No. 9 Georgia Tech to a 49-31 win over the Terps.
Georgia Tech, Clemson dominate list of weekly honors
Fellow Jacket Greg Gathers joined Hamilton on the ACC Football Players of the Week. Gathers' six-tackle effort earned him Rookie of the Week laurels. As part of his day, Gathers tallied four tackles for loss.
Meanwhile, Clemson placed two of their defenders on the list, as linebacker Keith Adams and cornerback Dextra Polite took Defensive Lineman and Defensive Back of the Week, respectively. Adams tied a school record with five tackles for loss while Polite intercepted one pass and broke up two others in the Tigers' 31-20 win over North Carolina.
Guard Jason Whitaker from Florida State took Offensive Lineman of the Week while Maryland's Gullian Gary was named Specialist of the Week. In his first career kickoff return, Gary took the ball 84 yards to set up a Terp touchdown.
