Fourth-year setter Mary Frances Scott was selected as ACC Volleyball Co-Player of the Week for the week ending Oct. 24, sharing the award with Clemson's Jodi Steffes.
Scott received the award after helping the Cavaliers earn three straight ACC victories.
Scott is Virginia's career assist leader and now stands in third place on the ACC career list.
Seminoles cornerback arrested
Florida State starting cornerback Tay Cody has been suspended for Saturday's game at Virginia following his arrest on misdemeanor charges.
Tallahassee, Fla., radio station WNLS reported that Cody was arrested after police found him in possession of an illegal substance.
Cody, a junior, is a two-year starter for the Seminoles. He sealed Florida State's 17-14 win over Clemson last Saturday by blocking a field goal with less than two minutes remaining in the game.
Former safety to start at QB for UNC
North Carolina's Antwon Black, who started the season as a backup safety, will start at quarterback Saturday against Furman.
Black, a junior, was thrust into the starting role following injuries to Ronald Curry and Luke Huard. He threw for 128 yards and rushed for 57 in relief of Huard in the Tar Heels' loss to Maryland last Saturday.
The Tar Heels received some good news, however, when injured linebacker Brandon Spoon announced he would return for a redshirt season next year instead of going to the NFL.
"I'm the kind of guy who sets a lot of goals for myself and I didn't want them to slip away or pass by," Spoon told the Associated Press. "I want to go out attempting to accomplish them."
