ISC selects White as 2000-2001 president

The Inter-Sorority Council elected its 2000-2001 executive board yesterday, choosing third-year Phi Mu member Allison White as the next ISC president.

White and the other new members of the executive board will take office March 8.

White said most of her plans for the next year focus on finding ways for the individual sorority houses to work together.

"We'll be working on increasing the unity of the system," she said.

The ISC selected second-year Kappa Kappa Gamma member Kristin Braggins as vice president for counsel.

Braggins said she will be in charge of training and advising counsels and will be responsible for knowing the ISC bylaws.

She said, as the person who will be advising houses about bylaws, she wants to be "a resource instead of a regulator."

Third-year Kappa Delta member Brook Whitfield was chosen as vice president for judiciary. She was the only executive board member who was opposed in the election.

Whitfield will be running ISC trials with Braggins and "ensuring that the bylaws are upheld."

One of Whitfield's plans will be to examine carefully the bylaws and see what kind of changes need to be made in order to ensure efficient functioning of the ISC.

Third-year Alpha Delta Pi member Sarah Henschel was elected treasurer.

Henschel said although her main job will be to work with the budget, she also will help with the executive board's goal to unify the sorority system and alleviate animosity between houses.

Third-year Kappa Delta member Mindy Rummel will be the executive coordinator.

Rummel said the executive coordinator's duties include recording the minutes at the presidents' meetings and making sure the minutes are accessible to everyone. She also said she hopes to improve communication between the sororities, the Greek system, the University and the community.

"We want to be more visible with a positive focus letting the community know what we're there for," she added.

The new executive board said they also want to improve the education of prospective and existing sorority members. Plans for increasing awareness among first years include revamping the ISC Web site, working with the First Year Resource Center and working with the Summer Orientation program.

White said this year is the 25th anniversary of the ISC, and they plan to buy a "useful gift" for the University.
