Roughing it up in D.C.

"This is our first major accomplishment standing on our own as a club," said a triumphant Brennan Holmes, second-year College student and president of the men's club rugby team.

On Sunday, the newly-formed undergraduate rugby team won the George Mason-sponsored "Brawl on the Mall" tournament in Washington, D.C.

Before this year, both graduate and undergraduate students participated in the sport and played on the same team. However, the undergraduates split off from the rest of the group for the first time this semester and tried their luck as a team of their own.

The 40-member Rugby squad battled eight others in the tournament, defeating Kutztown, George Mason and the United States Naval Academy in the final.

Third-year College student Augustin Cornejo was named Player of the Tournament, Holmes said.

This victory is a huge accmoplishment for the young rugby team, according to Holmes, and will help determine their status as a force to be reckoned with in the future.

Hard to find a computer at Cocke?

A new e-mail station in Newcomb Hall offers students a quicker alternative to checking e-mail in crowded, overheated Cocke Hall.

The recently-opened station is located on the third floor of Newcomb Hall, next to the elevator.

The new station, which now consists of three computers, was developed in response to students' voicing their opinions.

"Every so often we ask our student employees what we ought to have that's missing in Newcomb Hall. Several students had asked for an e-mail station," Newcomb Building Manager Larry Powell said.

The ITC-provided computers are equipped only with Simeon and are useful only for checking e-mail.

Although there are only three computers as of now, the Newcomb staff plans to install additional computers in the informal lounge on the third floor.
