Men's soccer grabs timely win

Once again, JMU stood for Just Missed U.Va.

In a double overtime thriller, James Madison lost for the first time this season, 3-2, to the Virginia men's soccer team. From seven yards out, Cav sophomore forward Ryan Gibbs chested down a cross from Jonathan Cole and fired a shot into the lower left-hand corner of the net with 22 seconds remaining in the second overtime.

"I actually tried to rush to get off the shot before the clock ran out," Gibbs said. "I wasn't sure what time it was and how much time we had left."

Cav coach George Gelnovatch had nothing but good things to say about the No. 17 Dukes (8-1-1), a team that played the No. 13 Cavaliers (8-3-0) to a virtual standstill for 119 minutes.

"They're a good team," Gelnovatch said. "After the game, I shook just about all their hands. They're going to be a playoff team."

As Gibbs was lost in a pile of Cavaliers after scoring the game-winning goal, the Dukes simply dropped to the ground and held their heads in their hands.
