Sacrificing learning to health

UPON ENTERING the Aquatics and Fitness Center, one is reminded that Thomas Jefferson once said, "Give about two hours a day to exercise, for health must not be sacrificed to learning. A strong body makes the mind strong." As always, Mr. Jefferson indeed has some valuable words for us, but the proposed renovations to the AFC are an indication that we have taken his advice too far.

According to the Web site for Intramural Sports, the AFC opened in 1996 and "marked a new era in Intramural-Recreational Sports," as it more than doubled the space devoted to fitness on Grounds.
