Over the past week and a half, the Virginia men's basketball team has played with poise and character, winning its last three games and climbing to No. 6 in the AP poll. In that stretch, Virginia trounced Clemson on the road and then came home to win convincingly against No. 13 Maryland and No. 19 Wake Forest.
Tonight, the Cavaliers (16-4, 5-4 ACC) face a talented but struggling N.C. State team on the road at 7 in Raleigh.
The Wolfpack recently have proved they can compete with the best, almost picking up a win over No. 8 Syracuse on Saturday. Syracuse took the lead with 15 seconds left in the game to leave the 'Pack just a point short, 54-53.
N.C. State also has lost narrowly in battles against strong ACC challengers like Wake Forest on Jan. 31, 74-69, in overtime, and No. 3 Duke on Jan. 10, 84-78.
"This is a challenge right now," junior swingman Adam Hall said. "We're going on the road with a three-game winning streak. [N.C. State] lost a tough game to Syracuse and are going to be ready to take it out on somebody."
When the Cavaliers and the Wolfpack met in Charlottesville on Jan. 6, Virginia picked up an 88-81 win after pulling away in the final minutes.
