Photo frenzy

If you are one of those people who spent Spring Break in some ultra-exotic locale with a camera attached to your wrist, you are not alone.

Students returned to the University this week with more than their suitcases and a new shimmering tan. They brought film, and it needed to be developed.

Passing by the film-drop table, students who want to relive their mid-semester escapades are shocked to find a film slot stuffed with other's undeveloped memories.

The University Bookstore this week alone has serviced nearly 750 rolls of film, approximately 150 per day. That total is quadruple the normal load according to Bookstore Operations Supervisor Joe Aust.

The overload of film has prompted the Bookstore to post a warning notice at exit services: "Attention! All Spring Break film is not guaranteed for next-day delivery."

Normally, film dropped off by 9 a.m. Monday through Friday may be picked up after 1 p.m. the following day. Now, however, the Bookstore is not making that promise to ensure better more efficient service.

"Konica has been very good to us over the years," Bookstore Director Jon Kates said. "We have been developing film for students for over 30 years, and students would be surprised to know how many different companies we went through to find the one with the highest quality and service."

Despite the time inconvenience, students seem to appreciate the extra care put into their reminiscing.

"I had five rolls, so I was really impressed that they were able to get them back to me that quickly," first-year College student Jess Melnicove said. "I would rather them take an extra day then have them rushed and get lost or ruined."
