Cavaliers Conor Gill, Mark Koontz and Chris Rotelli were selected as members of the 2001 All-ACC men's lacrosse team as chosen by the conference's four head coaches.
Gill, a junior attackman, also was on the team last year and was a first-team All-American. He leads the ACC and is second in the nation with 28 assists.
Koontz, a junior defender, was a member of the All-ACC team last year as well, along with being a second-team All-American. Koontz is now second in the ACC in ground balls with 53 and is key to the success of Virginia's defense.
Rotelli, a sophomore midfielde was selected to the team for the first time this year. He has scored at least one goal in every game this season and leads Virginia with 20 goals.
Other players selected to the All-ACC team were Duke's Scott Bross, Kevin Cassese and Chris Hartofilis, Maryland's Andrew Combs, Michael Howley and Pat McGinnis, and North Carolina's Bobby Gormsmen and Jeff Sonke.
ACC honors women's lax stars
Caitlin Banks was named ACC rookie of the year by the league's head coaches. She shares the honor with Duke's Meghan Miller. Banks is the leading scorer among all ACC freshmen with 20 goals and seven assists. Banks is the third rookie from Virginia to be selected as rookie of the year for women's lacrosse. She follows Amy Fromal (1997) and Mills Hook (1998).
Junior defender Lauri Kenis and sophomore midfielder Lauren Aumiller also earned All-ACC honors for their efforts for Virginia this season.
Kenis leads the Cavaliers with 27 caused turnovers and is second on the team with 41 ground balls.
Aumiller leads Virginia in scoring with 37 goals and 15 assists. She is the first sophomore in Virginia history to have 100 career points.
Other players selected to the women's lacrosse All-ACC team were Maryland's Allison Comito, Jen Adams (the ACC player of the year), Quinn Carney and Courtney Martinez, Duke's Kelly Dirks, Lauren Gallagher, Kate Kaiser, Meghan Walters and Kristen Foster North Carolina's Lindsay Stone, Christine McPike, Kellie Thompson and Porter Wilkinson.
ACC, SASA honor Young
Senior right fielder Meg Young, who batted .556 over the past week, was selected ACC and Southern Atlantic Softball Alliance player of the week for her efforts in leading the Virginia softball team to an 8-0 week.
Young, the Cavaliers' lone senior, went 15-for-27 in Virginia's eight victories and hit three doubles and three triples as she drove in six runs and scored nine times.
Over the course of the week, Young also set three new single-season records, two of which she had established earlier. She broke the record for hits (77) which broke her own mark of 67, established a new record for total bases (113), which had previously been hers at 103, and set a new mark for runs (48).
