The Hermann Foundation added Virginia senior Lori Lindsey as a candidate for its prestigious Hermann Award on Tuesday. The honor is given annually to the nation's top men's and women's college soccer players.

The foundation will announce the winner on Dec. 8 at the NCAA College Cup in Dallas. Lindsey, the Virginia women's soccer team's co-captain and reigning ACC player of the year, is vying for the award along with 13 candidates nominated at the beginning of the season and another player, Laura Schott of California, who also was added to the list on Tuesday.

Senior midfielder Laura Gaworecki became the first Virginia women's soccer player to earn ACC player of the week honors this year after propelling Virginia to three victories last week.

Gaworecki was instrumental in wins against George Mason and James Madison. She scored the lone goal in the Cavaliers' 1-0 win over George Mason, Oct. 7, and added two scores against the Dukes in Virginia's 4-1 victory on Saturday. Gaworecki ranks third on the team in points with 10 (four goals and two assists), and was named to the Virginia Soccer Classic's all-tournament team on Sept. 9. She has 29 career points and is one of the Cavaliers' most active players with 75 games played.

Martino nabs ACC honors

The ACC named Kyle Martino, a midfielder on the Virginia men's soccer team, its player of the week for the second time this season. Martino's two-goal performance Saturday against Clemson was enough to clinch the win for the No. 2 Cavaliers and secure the award.

Over the course of his career at Virginia, Martino has scored 52 points, 20 assists and 16 goals, and has seen nearly 4,500 minutes of action.
