As the Greek system gears up for next semester's formal rush, the Inter Fraternity Council will be going through the process with a new vice president for membership.
According to sources in the IFC, third-year Engineering student Tom Davison was elected to replace fourth-year College student Kevin Dixon as vice president. The election took place at an IFC presidents' meeting on Nov. 1. Dixon stepped down from the vice president's post following his arrest on University Circle last month.
Davison is a member of the Pi Lambda Phi fraternity and has worked closely with the IFC's party patrol committee in the past.
"I look forward to working closely with Tom and the entire IFC," said Aaron Laushway, assistant dean of students and director of fraternity and sorority life. Although he added that the IFC officially had not informed him of Dixon's resignation or of the new election.
IFC President Josh Johnson would not answer questions about Dixon or Davison and only answered "no comment" to questions regarding any questions about the current state of the vice president for membership executive position.
Dixon was not present at the IFC's Go Greek night, which was held last Tuesday. At the event, the IFC held an open rush forum to educate potential rushees and answer question from students about joining the Greek system during spring rush.
Dixon's resignation comes after his arrest on Oct. 21 at his Raleigh Court apartment. Dixon was charged after allegedly brandishing a 12-gauge shotgun at five University students who were pursuing vandals in the area around his appartment.
According to University Police officials, brandishing a firearm is a class one misdemeanor. If convicted, Dixon could face up to 12 months in jail or a $25,000 fine or both.
Dixon could also face University Judiciary Committee charges for the alleged incident. Charges would have to be made by the victims and would have to be made within 45 days of when the incident occurred.
Neither Davison nor Dixon could be reached for comment.
