University Police have begun distributing trespass warning posters around Grounds, alerting community members of a man barred from all University owned and operated property.
Officers said they encourage students, faculty and staff members to study the photo, which is featured on the alert posters throughout University residence halls, libraries, academic buildings and dining facilities.
If spotted on Grounds, officers said students should call 911 immediately to alert police.
"We've released the picture to let students know to watch out for the man," University Police Sgt. Melissa Fielding said. "We just want students to be aware and call police immediately if they see him on U.Va. property."
Because of legal constraints, police could not identify the individual by name or give a physical description beyond the photo itself, she said.
However, The Cavalier Daily has confirmed through police mug shot records that the unnamed man is Charles Winston Turner Jr. of Charlottesville, whom police charged with breaking and entering last spring after an incident at Lambeth Field.
In April, Turner entered a student apartment and fled soon after being discovered, according to police reports.
Then second-year Architecture student Yvi Nguyen said Turner had followed her into the apartment and later hid in the bathroom after being discovered.
Nguyen and her apartment-mate, then second-year College student Jenny Seifert, locked themselves in a bedroom until Turner left.
Nguyen later identified Turner as the suspect in a police photo-lineup.
In an e-mail sent to all students last week, police and school officials reminded students to practice consistently effective safety practices, said Pat Lampkin, interim vice-president for student affairs.
Lampkin said students should avoid walking alone and keep doors and windows locked as basic precautions.
