For the second time, Virginia freshman forward Elton Brown is the ACC men's basketball rookie of the week, for his play against Georgia Tech (Jan. 22), VMI (Jan. 24) and Duke (Jan. 27). Brown totaled 47 points and 18 rebounds in the three games. He had his best game against Georgia Tech, scoring 20 points and grabbing 10 rebounds to record his first career double-double. He got his second start against VMI in place of the injured Travis Watson and rang up 15 points and four rebounds, and put up 12 points and four rebounds against Duke. Brown earned his first rookie of the week honor Dec. 24.
N.C. State's Anthony Grundy was named ACC player of the week following Wolfpack victories over North Carolina and Temple. Grundy scored 41 points in the two victories.

Lane earns ACC honors for third consecutive week
Junior swimmer Cara Lane was named ACC swimmer of the week for the third consecutive week Monday. Lane led the Cavaliers, ranked 14th in the country, to a 131-111 victory over South Carolina Saturday, winning all three events in which she competed.
For the second consecutive week, Lane recorded season-best times in the 1,000-meter freestyle, the 500-meter freestyle, and the 200-meter butterfly. Her time of nine minutes, 46.63 seconds in the 1,000 free is the ACC's best this season. Her time of 4 minutes, 50:32 seconds in the 500 free ranks fourth in the ACC, behind three other Virginia swimmers. She ranks second on the team and third in the ACC with her time of 2:01:21 in the 200 fly.
Lane also was a three-time ACC swimmer of the week last season.
