Women's basketball ends season at third in ACC
The Virginia women's basketball team solidified their spot at third in the ACC with a win over Florida State, 57-54, in their last regular season game Sunday.
The Cavaliers', who were predicted to finish as poorly as eighth in the ACC in preseason polls, finished a surprisingly strong season that likely will carry them into the NCAA tournament.
Sophomore forward Anna Crosswhite shot 67 percent from both the field and from three-point range to lead the team with 12 points Sunday, while freshman forward Brandi Teamer contributed nine points and six rebounds in only 22 minutes.
The Cavaliers will head to Greensboro, N.C. for the ACC Tournament this weekend.
Wrestling wins quad meet
The Virginia wrestling team took first place in the American Quad Meet in Washington D.C. on Sunday. In anticipation of the ACC championships on March 9, the Cavaliers, led by Tim Foley and Don Carlo-Clauss, defeated American University, Bucknell and Eastern Michigan.
Foley won two of his three matches on technical falls with scores of 17-1 and 18-2. Foley's third win came in an injury defeat.
Carlo-Clauss pinned two opponents and defeated his Eastern Michigan opponent in a 10-4 decision.
Virginia defeated each of their opponents head-to-head. They beat American University, 37-9, Eastern Michigan 24-13 and Bucknell, 45-4.
