Virginia softball player Kristen Dennis was named ACC co-softball player of the week Monday for her two consecutive no-hitters during the Worth/Icebreaker Tournament in Cookeville, Tenn. this weekend. Florida State pitcher Jessica van der Linden also was named co-player of the week.

The no-hitters against Tennessee Tech and Louisville were Dennis' first in college. She pitched three games, only allowed one hit and struck out 28 batters. She only has allowed one earned run this season, and has an average of 23.1 consecutive scoreless innings.

Teamer, Quarles earn second-team all-ACC honors

  • Virginia women's basketball players Brandi Teamer and Telisha Quarles were named to the all-ACC second team yesterday.

    Teamer also was named to the ACC all-freshman team. Teammate LaTonya Blue was an honorable mention all-freshman selection.

    The all-ACC first team consisted of Alana Beard and Iciss Tillis of Duke, Coretta Brown and Nikki Teasley of North Carolina and Chrissy Floyd of Clemson. Teamer and Quarles were joined on the second team by Duke's Monique Currie, N.C. State's Kaayla Chones, and Sonja Mallory and Milli Martinez of Georgia Tech.

    Teamer was joined on the all-freshman team by North Carolina's Leah Metcalf, N.C. State's Rachel Stockdale and Duke's Wynter Whitley.
