News in Brief

The Greek Jewish Council, a co-ed organization for Jewish students in the Greek system, learned Friday that it received a $900 grant from the Kolker-Saxon-Hallock Family Foundation, for a Passover Seder.

"We're really excited about the grant, this is a huge accomplishment and will provide funding to enable this undertaking to be a successful event," comments Social Vice President, Liz Levy.

Publicity chair Jennie Moline says that as a result of the grant, the Council will charge $8 for the Seder instead of the $12 it had expected. She adds, "This is our first large-scale event, and we're looking forward to it becoming an annual GJC tradition."

The Council sees the Seder as an opportunity to bring together Jewish students in the Greek system in a more relaxed atmosphere to observe the first night of Passover, which falls in the middle of the week this year preventing many students from returning home for the holiday.

The meal will not be purely kosher, Moline added, but will be kosher style. The event will be held at the AEPi house on March 27.

The Council was resurrected last fall when president Alyse Garber, social vice president Liz Levy and public relations vice president Rachel Copperman sought to provide an outlet for Jewish students spread out through the Greek system to interact on more of a social and cultural level than the existing religious one.

Greek leaders meet for GOALS 2000 workshop

The leading men and women of the Greek system gathered in the Dome Room of the Rotunda on Saturday for the GOALS 2002 workshop.

The Inter-Fraternity Council, Inter-Sorority Council, Black Fraternal Council and Multicultural Greek Council met to encourage future interaction and provide an understanding of the purpose of the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life.

"GOALS 2002 was very representative of what the Greek councils, their members and the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life want to see in the future - increased interaction and collaboration between the IFC, ISC, BFC and MGC," IFC Public Relations Spokesman Ryan Ewalt said.
