Rojas receives ACC player of the week honor

Virginia softball player Ruby Rojas was named the ACC player of the week for her performance in the 2002 Hoo's Who tournament last weekend. Rojas was a key part in the Cavaliers' dominating first-place performance at the tournament, hitting .733 with 11-of-15 from the plate. The junior third baseman hit four doubles and two triples, scored six times and drove in four runs. By the end of the tournament, Rojas had raised her batting average 85 points to .293.

Rojas becomes the third Virginia softball player to be named ACC player of the week this season. Senior Kristen Dennis has received the honor twice, and freshman Valerie Sevilla was recognized once.

The Cavaliers will return to action with twin doubleheaders at Georgia State on March 29 at 6 p.m. and at Georgia Tech on March 30 at 1 p.m.

Hall enters dunk contest

Virginia senior Adam Hall will compete in the dunk competition at the 14th annual Slam Dunk and Three-Point Basketball Championships on Thursday, March 28 in Atlanta, Ga. The contest will be held in the Georgia State Sports Arena.

Last season Hall averaged 9.7 points and 4.6 rebounds per game as a senior on the Virginia men's basketball team. The senior forward/guard served as a tri-captain and started 16 of the 19 games he played. Sidelined by a foot injury for much of the season, Hall still managed to complete his Virginia career as the all-time eighth place career steals leader with 157, 11th in three-point field goals with 89 and totaled 1,104 points.

The ACC also will send Wake Forest's Antwan Scott to the dunk competition. The event will be aired on ESPN on March 30 at 2 p.m.
