WHOO TV, a University student-run film production group, is hard at work this summer filming the dramatic miniseries "Stratagem."
The miniseries is set at fictional Blackwood University, where five students conduct psychological research during the summer for Prof. Douglas and his teaching assistant Taylor Patton. However, the projects are somewhat mysterious and the results are questionable. This eventually leads the students to believe this "research" might be something far different, and perhaps far more sinister.
This is only the basic plot of "Stratagem" as WHOO TV is carefully withholding the details of the miniseries' story, said producer Nicholas T. Holden, a third-year College student.
What is known is that "Stratagem" is a 14-episode dramatic miniseries that was written by a group of five University students. The series will be split into two parts of seven episodes each, with each episode expected to run from approximately 22 to 28 minutes. The miniseries is scheduled to premiere October 4, with part one of the series anticipated to run throughout the coming fall semester. Part two is scheduled to air during the spring 2003 semester.
Filming for "Stratagem" has already begun in Charlottesville and is expected to continue until August 18. Presently the cast and crew consists mostly of University students, but Holden hopes to see an influx of volunteers from the general Charlottesville community after an NBC 29 segment about the miniseries stirred up local interest.
Holden has plans for bringing "Stratagem" to an even larger audience than the general Charlottesville public.
"We're trying to get [Stratagem] aired on national TV," Holden said. "We're hoping to be aired on the DISH network, the College Television Network or Showtime."
Once the pilot episode is complete, WHOO TV plans to send it to Showtime for consideration.
