Led by All-American candidate Travis Watson, the Virginia men's basketball team is ranked 19th in the preseason forecast from Slam Magazine.
The 2002-03 roster contains seven lettermen: senior center Travis Watson, sophomore forward Elton Brown, sophomore guard Jermaine Harper, sophomore guard Keith Jenifer, redshirt junior Majestic Mapp and senior center/forward Jason Rogers.
Transfer guard Todd Billet (Rutgers) and transfer center Nick Vander Laan (California-Berkeley) are also eligible after sitting out the 2001-02 season.
Sophomore guard/forward Devin Smith from Coffeyville Community College and freshman Derrick Byars also will join the team.
The Cavaliers finished 17-12 last season, highlighted by a victory over rival Duke at home. Virginia competed in the National Invitational Tournament last year.
White named ACC field hockey player of the week
Virginia goalkeeper Emily White has been rewarded for her 153-minute shutout streak by being named ACC field hockey player of the week. This is the second consecutive year she was honored.
White dominated defensively over the weekend, with five saves in the 1-0 victory over Northwestern and 12 saves against Southwest Missouri State.The Cavaliers won that game, 1-0.
White has a league leading 91.3 save percentage and a .628 goals-against-average. Her GAA ranks second in the ACC.
The 3-0 Cavaliers welcome the William & Mary Tribe on the UVA Turf Field at 7 p.m.
