Two Cavaliers picked for ACC 50th anniversary baseball team
Former Virginia baseball players Brian Buchanan and Seth Greisinger were named to the 52-member ACC 50th anniversary team, Commissioner John Swofford announced yesterday.
Buchanan played outfield at Virginia from 1992 to 1994 and was a first team Baseball America All-American. Drafted by the Yankees in the first round, Buchanan left a statistical legacy at Virginia.
He is the career leader in triples and slugging percentage and ranks in the top 10 in home runs, total bases and batting average. His 1994 season possibly was the best in school history, when he set single-season records in home runs, RBIs, slugging percentage and total bases.
Greisinger pitched for the Cavaliers from 1994-1996 and also was a first round pick of the Tigers. In the 1996 season, he was an ABCA First-Team All-American, a Baseball America First-Team All-American and a Collegiate Baseball First-Team All-American. He also was named the ACC Tournament MVP in 1996 when he led the Cavaliers to a NCAA regional appearance.
Greisinger is the all-time leader in strikeouts and wins and stands second in innings pitched. In the 1996 season, he set school records for innings pitched and wins.
Clemson led all schools with 12 selections and Georgia Tech had nine players, including Boston Red Sox All-Star Nomar Garciaparra.
