White named field hockey player of the week

Virginia field hockey goalie Emily White was recognized by the ACC with player of the week honors after a stellar week of play. White made 13 saves in the Cavaliers' 1-0 upset of No. 10 North Carolina, shutting out an important conference rival in a game played mostly on Virginia's half of the field.

Earlier in the week, White had six saves to help Virginia to a 2-1 win over Virginia Commonwealth. In the last 140 minutes of play, only one goal has eluded the junior goalkeeper.

Other honors also have come White's way because of her performance last week -- she ranked in the top 12 nationally in saves and save percentage last week and was named to the womensfieldhockey.com national honor roll.

This is the second time this season White was named ACC Player of the Week. She also earned the honor Sept. 9.
