Wrestling heads for Ithaca for Body Bar Invitational

Virginia wrestling is scheduled to face three of the nation's top 25 teams this weekend when they participate in the 2002 Cornell Body Bar Invitational in Ithaca, N.Y. this Saturday.

Ten teams from around the nation will be in Ithaca for the matches scheduled to start at 9 a.m. in Edinboro, Cornell and Oregon all are ranked in the top 25 by wrestling publicatios such as W.I.N. magazine and The Wrestling Mall.

NCAA bid for cross country

The Virginia women's cross country team has been invited to the NCAA Championships in Terre Haute, Ind., on Monday, Nov. 25, after being ranked No. 11 in the nation by Mondo National, their highest ranking in 20 years.

Virginia came in third behind No. 4 Wake Forest and No. 6 N.C. State at the NCAA Southeast Regional, one week after placing third behind those two teams at the ACC Championships.

Virginia freshman Kara Scanlin has led the Cavaliers this season, finishing 10th overall in the regional race with a time of 20 minutes, 29 seconds. She and teammates senior Dawn Cleary and junior Jane Maxwell were named All-Region performers

Virginia football claims two ACC awards

Virgnia sophomore tailback Marquis Weeks earned his second ACC player of the week award this season as junior teammate Jamaine Winborne picked up the first player of the week nomination of his career after the Cavaliers' win over the Wolfpack Saturday.

Cornerback Winborne had five tackles and an assist in the Virginia upset. His fumble recovery on the three-yard line prevented the Wolfpack from scoring, and he broke up two passes, including N.C. State's final pass of the game.
