Counterpoint: Tough defense will make Kentucky NCAA champions

It's that time of year. For the last week, CBS' "March Madness" theme has been cued in my Winamp player and repeated frequently to inspire me for the upcoming weekend -- the greatest in all of sports. The week leading up to the tourney is spent tirelessly picking upsets so you can brag to your friends about the one you picked and not the five you missed. So, understanding the uncertainty in the Madness, here I go.

Who will win the National Championship?

I'm going to go with the consensus pick of Kentucky over Arizona for a number of reasons. Kentucky plays tremendous defense -- an inherent characteristic of championship teams. With 23 straight wins, the east-of-the-Mississippi Wildcats are the best team in the nation (quick aside: Virginia beat them how?). They have no star and, more importantly, are battle-tested. With a great coach in Tubby Smith, every player knows his role on the team. The 'Cats have a powerful frontline and simply do not fall behind early. They have a cakewalk to the regional final, and likely will travel to New Orleans, especially if Pittsburgh falls early.

Arizona has a much tougher bracket, possibly facing the likes of Gonzaga, Illinois and either Duke or Kentucky. They do go 10 players deep, but it is often tough in the tournament to keep everyone happy. Senior forward Luke Walton is not completely healthy
