Men's tennis defeats Wake, NC State

The No. 38 Virginia men's tennis team won two ACC matches this weekend, first upsetting No. 28 Wake Forest on Saturday, 4-3, then topping NC State Sunday 7-0. The Cavaliers squeaked past the Deacons, splitting the six singles matches with their conference foe, but earning the doubles point that proved to be the difference. Virginia had victories from their No. 1 doubles team Doug Stewart and Michael Duquette as well as the No. 3 team of Rylan Rizza and Nick Meythaler.

All three doubles teams won Sunday, adding to wins from all six singles competitors, as the Cavaliers swept the Wolfpack of NC State to improve their record to 16-2 overall and 3-0 in the ACC.

Golf earns fourth at Furman

The Virginia men's golf team finished in fourth place in the Furman Intercollegiate tournament, jumping up five spots after Sunday's final round. The Cavaliers shot 282in the final round, the lowest round score posted by any team in the tournament.

Senior golfer Justin Goodhue shot a career-low 66 on Sunday, finishing the tournament tied with freshman teammates Brad Tilley and Eamonn McLoughlin for 12th place.

Virginia Tech successfully defended its tournament title, shooting a total team score of 869 to edge host Furman by four strokes. Virginia Tech became the first team in the 34-year history of the Intercollegiate to win the championship three years in a row.

Virginia's next match will be April 12-13 in Raleigh, N.C.
