Dear Sir, As a student at another college who has frequently "rolled" with friends in a fraternity at the University of Virginia, it is clear to me what the University's biggest problem is. The women at Virginia are the most pitiful in the world, being mere peach pits compared to the girls down the road. Although I know the Board of Visitors had good intentions in going coed a few years back, it is obvious the whole plan backfired.
The women at Virginia, with only one or two possible exceptions, have the worst imaginable attitude toward dating.
Let me explain myself. Having attended several rush functions at my friend's fraternity house, I concluded my feelings were somewhat universal. All the rushees spoke highly of the grand parties in their dorms. My friend however, would slyly pick at their weak spot. "Really?" he'd reply; "When was the last time you had a good date?" Inevitably the rushees became crestfallen.
Indeed, "rolling" is the fraternities' major selling point. Why the University had yet to come up with a crop of level-headed females who can fit in is a mystery, but it is clear the coeds come here for something other than an education and just don't fit in with Virginia's distinguished way of doing things.
I have always enjoyed my trips to the University and am concerned about its progress, so I offer my views as an impartial observer. I hope Virginia sees what a horrible mistake it made and if it cannot revert to its all-male status, I at least hope it will tighten its standards to get more likable females.
