Water polo earns No. 1 seed in Mid-Atlantic tournament
The women's club water polo team traveled to the University of Pennsylvania this weekend to compete in a Mid-Atlantic Northern Region tournament. Virginia started the weekend with a win against West Chester, followed by successive wins over Indiana University of Pennsylvania and Penn State.
Sunday morning the team faced Penn in an intense game. The score was tied until the final minutes of the fourth quarter when second year Laura Aimone scored on the winning penalty shot. The entire team contributed key offensive and defensive plays to the winning weekend.
With the 4-0 performance, the team clenched the No. 1 seed for the Mid-Atlantic tournament on April 12-13 at Maryland. A win at that tournament would send the three-year-old team to the National Club Championships in Wisconsin, May 2-4. Currently the team is ranked No. 14 in National Collegiate Club Poll and hopes to rise in the rankings after this weekend's success.
