Architecture students bond during Charette Week and Engineering students connect and celebrate their profession during E-Week. But what about the students in the College?

To promote unity and celebrate the College, the Arts and Sciences Council has launched a new effort -- College Week.

The week commenced yesterday with the majors and advising fair, held in Newcomb hall from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. College students munched on snacks provided by the ASC while perusing the available information at each department's table.

"The main purpose of the majors and advising fair is to provide mainly first years and undeclared second years with advice that they need on specific majors and how to declare majors," said Elizabeth Huff, third-year College student and president of the ASC.

At the American Studies table, third-year College student Amy Hirsch was available to help answer students' questions.

"Mostly, people ask what the major is and what the course of study looks like," Hirsch said. She also handed out sheets about requirements for the major and classes that satisfy the requirements.

To find out about the government major, first-year College student Michael Love spoke to representatives at the politics table.

"They helped me learn what requirements to fill for the major, and they gave me a lot of great professors to take," Love said.

In celebration of the College, Love said he plans to attend ASC's College Carnival on Friday between 12 p.m.-3 p.m. in the amphitheater. He is looking particularly forward to the student-faculty trivia challenge.

"I want to prove to them that students are really smarter," Love said.

The College Carnival also will feature popcorn, cotton candy, snow cones, temporary tattoos, a moon bounce, a gladiator joust, a G Force Cyclone, golf chipping with prizes and a faculty dog show.

"The purpose of that event is to bring all the students in the College together and support the institution that we love -- the College of Arts and Sciences," Huff said.

To express appreciation to professors in the College, the ASC also has created cards that students can sign to thank their professors. There will be a table on the Lawn this week where students can sign cards.

"They can just sign the card, and they don't have to worry about looking like kiss-ups," Huff said. "It's an easy way for them to show their gratitude."
