Water Polo emerges victorious at Mid-Atlantic Championships

The Virginia women's water polo team took the win at the conference championship tournament this weekend at the University of Maryland. They took the No. 1 seed into the tournament and led off with a solid 13-5 win over Richmond's squad. The Cavaliers maintained their winning ways with a 9-7 win over tournament host Maryland by effectively shutting down the Terrapin offense.

To seal the win, Virginia had to take one final win over a hungry Nittany Lion squad who were coming off a 6-5 win. Yet Virginia maintained a strong defense and capitalized on Penn's mistakes to swim off with a 10-6 win. Key to the effort were goalkeeper Heidi Garrabran in the defensive zone and Laura Aimone who proved her offensive potency along the outside perimeter.

Virginia now will head to Nationals in Wisconsin.
