Looking for a fun, free way to be inspired to do some serious shopping? Starting today, whether one is the die-hard shopper for whom window-shopping just doesn't cut it, or the resentful husband who was persuaded by the family to tag along, Barracks Road shopping center has found a middle ground. All shoppers, no matter what their personalities, can find something to cater to their interests.
The "Rock 'til you Shop" summer concert series, created by Barracks Road shopping center will debut this evening, and might just turn Barracks Road into the new hot spot to enjoy live music this summer.
Between the hours of 5 and 7 p.m., from now until July 31, everyone is invited to swing by Barracks Road and enjoy either shopping with different background music, or a relaxing evening away from home. Bands that will be making appearances include the Jan Smith Band, Virginia Cutups and Old School Freight Train.
Tonight, The Overtime Band will kick off the series. They will be playing at the fountain between Blue Ridge Mountain Sports and Casella's.
Andy Jasper, an agent for Sam Hill Entertainment, describes The Overtime Band as "a terrific live band that plays a mix of R&B, beach music, classic, rock, and a really good variety of covers and originals."
The leader of the band is a veteran of the Virginia live music scene, and the band plays over 90 shows a year, according to their website.
The song list on their website includes everything from Kool and the Gang to R. Kelly.
Jasper describes the music as easy to dance to, and claims that the variety has something to please everyone.
In addition to the concert each week, select dates will also include wine tasting provided by Okencroft Winery.
With the recent implementation of a $3 cover charge for Fridays After Five, free live music is becoming harder to find on the weekends. "Rock 'til you Shop" will provide an alternative local music scene and entertainment for those who choose to be more fiscal and save their cash. The only things they will have to beware of now are the stores that will be lurking behind the guitars and drums.
