Sitting at the very back of the Chemistry auditorium, it often can be hard to hear your professor's lecture, let alone discern his or her exact facial features. When the size of your lecture class merits it being its very own community, there is little room for seating, and even less for discussion.
The Women's Center presents a solution for students who want to get to know their professors -- namely, the Student Faculty Dinner Series.
Started five years ago by the First Year Resource Center, the dinner series caters to students seeking a comfortable setting to meet their professors.
This past Monday, 30 students gathered together at Pavilion I on the Lawn to meet two professors in the College -- Anthropology Prof. George Mentore Psychology Prof. Stacey Sinclair. Students conversed with their professors over a University-catered dinner.
The series always has been a popular option for students, as is apparent by the long waiting list of over 30 students, according to Chi Lam, Director of Programming at the Women's Center.
"It's really a wonderful mentoring opportunity for students to get together with professors and ask them questions that interest them," Lam said.
The series is open to all first and second-year students, and pre-registration is required due to limited spacing, Lam said.
The next dinner in the series will be held on Tuesday, Oct 28. The professors for the dinner are Politics Prof. Paul Freedman and Art History Prof. Francesca Fiorani.
"The faculty that we choose to participate in the series are recommended by the students," Lam said. "They're really dynamic."
