The Virginia men's soccer team (1-3) defeated American (1-2-1), 1-0, Friday, but succumbed to a 4-0 loss to No. 2 UCLA Sunday in the Maryland/adidas Classic. In the first game of the tournament, Virginia freshman Adam Cristman recorded his first career goal in the first ten minutes of the opening half, holding on for the 1-0 win over American.
No. 2 UCLA (3-1) fell to Maryland (4-0) in their first tournament match on Friday but rebounded against Virginia, cruising to a 4-0 victory.
Bruin Dru Hoshimiya deflected a shot early in the first half to give UCLA the decisive goal, en route to the four-goal shutout.
Maryland claimed the tournament crown, going 2-0, with a 2-1 win over American Sunday.
