The Virginia volleyball team (11-0) extended its perfect record Saturday with a 3-1 (25-30, 30-17, 30-23, 30-27) victory over Kentucky to win the Kentucky Conference Challenge at Memorial Coliseum in Lexington.
This marks the third consecutive tournament the Cavaliers have won in 2003, and moves their record to 11-0, the best start in program history.
Senior libero Whitney Ashcraft was named MVP of the tournament, recording a match-high 23 defensive saves against Kentucky and setting the school record with 42 digs against Syracuse in the second game of the tournament.
Senior outside hitter Paige Davis and junior middle Alexis Geocaris were named to the all-tournament team. Davis had 18 kills, five blocks and three digs against Kentucky, while Geocaris tallied five kills and seven blocks.
Virginia opened the tournament with a 3-0 win over Wright State on Friday and posted a 3-1 win over Syracuse on Saturday morning.
The Cavaliers already have won more matches than last year's team, which ended the season at 9-25. Virginia returns to action on Tuesday when it travels to Williamsburg, Va. to take on William & Mary.
