Ghastly wigs and grisly bodysuits.
Magical capes and spooky masks.
While Halloween traditionally entails concealing your identity in a scary witch or ghost costume, many people have altered the practice.
Walking down Rugby Road on Halloween night, one may even say that less is more. Halloween is the perfect time to embellish the normal going-out attire of three-inch heels and halter tops.
Not exactly sure as to why her friends across the hall in Woody have a black whip, first-year College student Ashley Luckadol has found a purpose for the instrument.
"I just saw that whip one day and thought of a dominatrix and thought that would be a cute Halloween idea," Luckadol said.
While the whip ties the costume together, Luckadol said she is looking for some items to complete the outfit.
"I am looking for tight leather shorts or pants, a black halter top, a black hat and black heels," she said.
Luckadol said she plans to go to parties with her friends who will be dressed as amazons. She said her friends will be wearing short leopard- print skirts and lots of beads.
"Originality is key," Luckadol said. "It will be interesting to see what everyone else has come up with."
Third-year College student Nrupa Jani will begin her Halloween evening by watching the little trick-or-treaters on the Lawn.
"I have heard they are really cute to watch," Jani said.
Once the sun goes down, Jani will put on her own costume, which will be a little different from the cute Harry Potters and princesses she will see on the Lawn. Accompanied by four friends dressed as Madonna at different stages of her career, Jani will stand out as the "hula girl."
"It's pretty scandalous," Jani said.
Jani said she is borrowing her friend's hula-girl costume since she can't find her French maid outfit from last year.
The bottom is a grass skirt with a string of grass hanging down to just below the knee. Jani said she has flower lays to wear around her neck and in her hair as well as a coconut bra top.
While Luckadol and Jani are excited about their creative and scandalous costumes, the weather may take its toll.
"I hope I don't freeze my coconuts off," Jani said.
