The Virgnia women's rowing team had a strong showing at the Head of the Charles Regatta in Boston Sunday with the youth eight crew finishing first, the championship four crew finishing fifth and the championship eight crew finishing 11th in the competition.
The youth eight crew came in with a time of 17:06.988 to emerge victorious over a field of 55 crews. The crew consisted of coxswain Katie Hilton, Libby McCann, Ashley Jones, Kerry Maher, Heather Gardner, Victoria Moore, Meredith Danberg-Ficarelli, Anna Samaha and Annemarie Pitts.
The University's championship four crew came in fifth with a time of 18:20.152 behind the London Training Center (17:27.356), the Vesper Boat Club (17:45.318), Brown (18:04.502) and the University of Victoria (18:17.217). Danielle Sewell, Carolyn McMillan, Kathryn Waller, Katie Yrazabal and Crystal MacLeod made up the championship four crew.
The championship eight crew finished with a time of 16:34.726 in 11th place. The London Training Center also won this race with a time of 15:31.082. The championship eight crew was comprised of Betty Shumaker, Jennifer Reck, Renee Albers, Yvonne Epp, Sara Lippa, Margaret Matia, Lindsay Shoop, Genevieve Cauchon-Voyer and Melanie Kok.
The Virginia women's rowing team will compete in their next regatta on Sunday at the Princeton Chase in Princeton, N.J.
