Around the ACC

Clemson 26, Florida St. 10

Tommy Bowden took a victory away from his father, whose 74th birthday celebration was dampened by a loss that likely crushed FSU's national championship hopes. Tiger quarterback Charlie Whitehurst threw for one touchdown and ran for another, as Clemson beat the Seminoles for the first time in the 12 tries since FSU joined the ACC.

UNC 42, Wake Forest 34

UNC freshman Ronnie McGill carried 29 times for 244 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Tar Heels to their first ACC win of the season and to bring an end to their 10-game home losing streak. His Demon Deacon counter-part, Chris Barclay, grinded out 160 yards in the losing effort.

Duke 41, Georgia Tech 17

The Blue Devils snapped their 30-game ACC losing streak with a home rout of Georgia Tech Saturday. Duke's offensive charge was led by senior running back Chris Douglas, who amassed a career-high 218 yards. Duke led from start to finish, scoring on the game's first drive and later putting the game out of reach with a 24-7 second half.
