Cavaliers win one, drop two in Rainbow Wahine Classic tournament

The Virginia women's basketball team competed in the Rainbow Wahine Classic in Honolulu, Hawaii over Thanksgiving weekend, defeating No. 18 Arizona Friday night before falling to No.2 Texas Saturday and Hartford Sunday.

The Cavaliers topped Arizona, 75-60, in the first round of the tournament behind the double-digit scoring efforts of starters LaTonya Blue (16 points), Anna Prillaman (14), Brandi Teamer (13) andKate Kreager (10).

The win matched Virginia with Texas, who went on to defeat the Cavaliers, 74-54, in the second round of the tournament. The Longhorns dominated, forcing 27 Virginia turnovers in the game and leading by as much as 29 in the second half. Blue again led the Cavaliers in scoring with 18 points, and Teamer added 10.

Virginia then faced Hartford in the third place game. Despite 20 points and eight rebounds from Teamer, the Cavaliers fell to Hartford, 74-63, dropping their overall record to 2-3. Virginia returns to action to face Long Island on the road Friday, Dec. 5.
