The Atlantic Coast Conference released its 2004 preseason softball poll with Florida State as the unanimous first-place selection. Virginia was voted into a three-way tie for second place with North Carolina and Georgia Tech.
The Seminoles, who received 36 points from voting by the league's six coaches, won the 2003 ACC Title and return 7 starters, 2 pitchers, and 16 letter winners from last year's squad who went undefeated in conference play (8-0) and finished with a 46-11 overall record.
Maryland (15 points) and N.C. State (6 points) round out the bottom of the rankings.
