Hoyas get best of Virginia in final scrimmage

Through 60 minutes of biting wind yesterday at University Hall Turf Field, a rowdy Hoyas team controlled the game, and the Cavaliers were unofficially defeated by their rivals from the nation's capital, 8-5. The matchup was the final of three preseason scrimmages for Virginia.

The Virginia offense worked successfully for good shots at the Georgetown net, yet scored only one goal in the first quarter as Hoyas goalie Andrew Owen compiled a number of impressive saves. Several shots during the game, however, could have resulted in Cavalier goals with better bounces or an inch in any direction toward the goal.

Georgetown midfielder Nick Miaritis scored twice in the first quarter to set the tone of the contest. In the initial goal of the scrimmage, Miaritis scored by flinging the ball over his helmet with his back to the Virginia net causing a roar to erupt from the Georgetown bench.
