Softball wins two, coach passes 700 win mark

Softball coach Cheryl Sprangel passed the 700 career wins mark with the Cavaliers' victories over Miami University and Chattanooga this weekend.

Sprangel's 700th victory came in extra innings after Virginia came from behind to overcome Miami 4-3 Sunday.

The Cavaliers were behind Miami 3-0 going into the sixth inning, but tied it up with three runs in the bottom of the sixth.

Senior shortstop Heather Field put the first run on the board for the Cavaliers with a two-out solo home run. Sophomore center fielder Jessica Taylor was able to score on sophomore second baseman Sara Larquier's double.

Junior catcher Jenn Wynn finally tied things up with a run-scoring single.

Wynn also scored the winning run in the ninth inning off of senior first baseman Hannah Owings' single.

The Chattanooga victory was easier to come by. After allowing Chattanooga to go ahead by one in the bottom of the first, the Cavaliers took the lead with three runs in the top of the fourth, never to relinquish it. Virginia topped Chattanooga 9-1.
