Tennis team falls to Penn

The No. 33 Virginia women's tennis team suffered their second loss of the season, 4-3, Sunday against the University of Pennsylvania.

No. 45 Penn ended the Cavaliers' five-game winning streak in Philadelphia by taking the doubles point early and splitting the six singles matches with Virginia.

The Cavaliers' No. 38 doubles team of Mariko Fritz-Krockow and Lauren Bruch won at No. 1, but Penn won No. 2 and No. 3 to grab the crucial doubles point.

The Cavaliers' singles victories were all in straight sets and their losses all went three sets. Sophomore Kristen James won at No. 2 and juniors Marta and Dora Bechliwanas overcame their opponents at No. 4 and No. 5.

The loss pushed Virginia's record to 6-2.

The Cavaliers return to action Saturday with a doubleheader against Virginia Tech and Radford in Blacksburg.

They will end their long string of road matches by returning home the following Saturday to face UNC Greensboro.
