Virginia wrestlers advance to second round

Virginia wrestlers Scott Moore and Tim Foley won their opening matches at the NCAA Division I championships Thursday in St. Louis to advance to the second round of competition.

Moore, the No. 1 ranked wrestler in the country in the 141-pound weight class, recorded an 11-3 major decision victory over Wyoming's Blake Gunter. He improves to 47-0 on the season and will next face Cal Poly's Steve Esparza.

Foley, ranked No. 11 at 165 pounds, improved to 35-4 after a 14-9 win over Wisconsin's Kelly Flaherty. Foley next meets the winner of the match between Slippery Rock's Jason Cardillo and Hofstra's No. 6 Ralph Everett.
