Two women's lacrosse standouts earn honors

Junior Amy Appelt and senior Caitlin Banks were both named women's lacrosse Players of the Week following Virginia's two straight wins over George Mason and then-No. 3 Loyola, respectively. Appelt was honored as ACC Player of the Week while Banks was picked by maax as National Player of the Week.

Appelt leads the nation in scoring with 68 goals and 22 assists for 90 points. She had three goals and an assist against Loyola, including a game-tying goal with just over three minutes to play. She had two goals and two assists against George Mason earlier in the week.

Appelt has scored at least a hat trick in 15 of Virginia's 16 games so far this season.

Banks leads Virginia in draw controls with 38. She scored three goals and had five draw controls against Loyola to accentuate a three-draw control performance against George Mason.

Banks currently sits at third place on Virginia's all-time list for career draw controls with 122.
