Top recruit Hall found ineligible for 2004 season

He dominated on the gridiron during his senior year of high school, making 93 tackles and recording 11 sacks. But Virginia football recruit Olu Hall encountered one obstacle recently that he couldn't take down: NCAA qualification requirements.

The 6-foot-4, 225 pound standout from Robinson High School (Fairfax, Va.) was the top-rated recruit in the state of Virginia, according to Rivals.com, but was unable to qualify to play this year as a freshman. He will attend Hargrave Military Academy in the fall, the Charlottesville Daily Progress and Roanoke Times reported yesterday.

This is the third year in a row that the top-rated in-state recruit will be headed to Hargrave. Linebacker Ahmad Brooks went there in 2002 and cornerback Philip Brown attended the school in 2003. Both Brooks and Brown eventually qualified and currently play for the Cavaliers.

Hall was in Hampton yesterday preparing for Friday night's Virginia High School Coaches' Association football all-star game and was unavailable for comment. Hall's mother failed to return multiple messages yesterday, but told the Daily Progress Tuesday that she is certain that her son will not waver on his decision to attend U. Va. and said he was not devastated by the situation.
