Just when students thought they had tried every restaurant and bar on the Corner, the Buffalo Wing Factory opened its doors Sept. 12, giving students one more place to explore.
Just to clear up any confusion, the buffalo wing earns its name not from the animal, but from its founding city of Buffalo, N.Y. As the restaurant's name implies, it is on this specialty food item that the Buffalo Wing Factory, a franchise based primarily in Virginia, has built its reputation.
All the wings are prepared fresh -- not frozen -- and all sauces are made from scratch in the restaurant. The restaurant boasts an impressive 30 different wing flavors, including the infamous flat liner, the restaurant's spiciest wing.
"The flat liner is so hot we make people sign a waiver before eating it," said third-year College student Jenny Thomas, a Buffalo Wing Factory employee.
The menu also consists of many other items, including burgers, sandwiches and salads, all in the price range of about $6 or $7.
"I had a super club sandwich, and it was excellent," third-year Engineering student Brian Cunningham said. "No one in my group tried the flat liner though."
The restaurant also features a bar area surrounded by panels that open up to the outside during nice weather. The rest of the inside seating is divided into smaller sections. The restaurant can hold about 100 customers in total, and throughout both the bar and restaurant area are about 20 televisions.
"I liked that it wasn't just one big room," Cunningham said. "[The rooms] were smaller and more personable."
Food and drink specials are offered every day of the week, including 39-cent wings on Mondays, $2 pitchers on Tuesdays and 50-cent drafts on Wednesdays.
The Buffalo Wing Factory is located on Elliewood Ave., across from Biltmore Bar and Grill, and is open for lunch and dinner seven days a week.
