Four ACC teams were in the top 25 in this year's first BCS standings. New conference addition Miami is ranked second in the poll that determines which two teams will play for the national championship. Defending co-champion Southern California secured the top spot with a near-perfect score of .9912 out of a possible 1.000.
Virginia is 15th in the standings with a score of .4101. The Cavaliers can attribute their score to Saturday's loss to Florida State. Following the loss, the Cavaliers dropped from a No. 6 ranking in both polls to a No. 15 ranking in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches poll and a No. 14 ranking in the AP poll. The revamped BCS places equal emphasis on the two major polls and the average of six computer rankings. The Seminoles are fifth in the BCS with a score of .8072.
The Hurricanes snuck past Oklahoma to snag the No. 2 ranking. The top two teams in the initial BCS standings have never met in the national championship game in the short but controversial history of the BCS.
Virginia Tech rounds out the BCS with the No. 25 position.
