Serving the University Community Since 1890

From the ARCHIVES

Today's issue of College Topics is the first one published since our declaration of war. It is only fitting at this time that we outline our editorial policy.

We pledge to every member of the University of Virginia community that we will do everything in our power to aid in the war effort. The President of the United States has called upon the nation's press to cover the news accurately and calmly during these times. In no [way] can the work of university newspapers be minimized. For no group is more vitally affected by the war than university students.

The entire effort of our staff will be geared to give to our readers news accurately and promptly. Rumor at this time is a dangerous weapon in the hands of the enemy. By waiting until official news is printed in this paper you can serve your nation. We plan to fully cover news of interest to Virginia students in matters about the armed forces, changes in the University program, and civilian defense. This information, let us emphasize, will be official information only.
