Rushing out of their dorms, houses or apartments, students sometimes forget certain objects in the scuffle to get to class or meetings. Some objects are trivial, while others are indispensable. Books, pens and cell phones are at the top of the list of all-important objects, while some students have certain security-blanket type objects that really matter to them, but wouldn't seem to matter to anyone else.
Students mentioned everything from objects of safety to objects of vanity. Some joked around while others shared heartfelt stories of keepsakes they can't leave home without. Many students just stuck to lip gloss. After all, wintry air wreaks havoc on lips, hands and hair alike.
So, what do University students feel naked without? Their answers may surprise you.
Third-year College student Katie White can't leave home without her cell phone and admits, "I've gone back a couple times for it, even whenI'm going to be late to class."
Other students had less frivolous priorities.
"My water bottle, how pathetic is that?" fourth-year College student Katie Kane admitted. "I'm not going to waste a dollar on water from a random vending machine when I have a filter at home."
Many other students had similarly basic responses, placing their eyeglasses, favorite pens and planners at the top of their lists.
Laura Newby, a second-year Education student admitted, "I've got to have a hair tie. If I don't have one on me, I go crazy, especially when my hair is longer than it is right now."
Erin Eilers, a graduate student in the Curry School, reported a longer list.
"My chapstick, my student ID and my driver's license ... and my cell phone in case anything happens," Eilers said. "I also have to be wearing my engagement ring. I'm still getting used to wearing it all the time. If I left home without it, that would be bad."
Other students stuck to the basics.
"I can't leave home without my gun," third-year Engineering student Dave Madaras quipped. "No, just kidding. I don't really like to leave home, but when I have to, I can't leave without my wallet; that's essential."
Madaras was not the only student to joke about his essentials.
Andrew McDowell, a third-year College student joked that he can't leave home without "my cell phone, my wallet and beer."
Fourth-year College student Aemon Malone joked that he can't leave home without "pants -- that's about it."
On a more serious note, fourth-year College student Greg Chudy said, "I keep a little Bible on me."
Whether it's a Bible, a beer or a Nalgene bottle, there are certain objects that students can't leave home without (just like that Visa commercial).
