20 Questions

Every week, the Cavalier Daily asks a student 25 questions and allows him or her to eliminate five of them.

This week's interviewee is Nrupa Jani, a fourth-year Spanish and Psychology double major who just returned from a semester in Valencia, Spain.

Q: When was the last time you went to the zoo?

A: I guess it was in India, where I have a lot of family. Probably two years ago.

Q: What is your earliest class?

A: It's Abnormal Psych at 9:30 a.m., which is just wrong because I'm a fourth year.

Q: How would you describe your political views?

A: They waffle. If I had to say, I think I would say moderate, leaning toward liberal.

Q: What is the most exciting thing about the new dining hall opening?

A: That I'm never going to get a chance to use it! Seriously, I waited all last year, and now that I'm leaving, it's opening.

Q: Favorite thing about being home?

A: Family, food and not getting work done.

Q: What's your favorite time of day to do work?

A: Midday, before dinner. There's a difference between "favorite" and "most productive."

Q: Who is your favorite poet?

A: Rubén Darío.

Q: What kind of soap do you use?

A: Body wash. I'm high class, but not really, because it's Suave -- Mango Pearl Passion.

Q: What's the best and worst thing about U.Va.?

A: The worst thing was cliques based on the Greek system and race, and the best is that the school is handicapped-friendly.

[Jani just had knee surgery and is walking around with a crutch.]

Q: Favorite song to sing in the shower?

A: "It's a Beautiful Morning."

Q: Do you know how to drive stick?

A: Negative.

Q: When do your parents embarrass you most?

A: Whenever they're talking about people in Gujarati, the dialect of Hindi we speak in India.

Q: What do you do when you get the hiccups?

A: Drink a lot of water.

Q: On a scale from one to 10, how annoyed to you get by people who are overly-attached to Apple computers?

A: Nine. Mainly because I don't know how to use them.

Q: Favorite kind of dog?

A: I don't like dogs. Scared of them.

Q: Favorite subject in elementary school?

A: Science.

Q: Would you rather be a flying elephant or a newt?

A: Good question. Flying elephant.

Q: What's the farthest you've ever been from home?

A: Spain. Actually, Morocco.

Q: Favorite movie to watch on a rainy day?

A: "A Walk in the Clouds" with Keanu Reeves.

Q: Are we in the same Spanish class?

A: Yes. Yes we are. Good luck writing the paper due tomorrow.

Q: Paper due tomorrow?

The Verdict: Nrupa will, without a doubt, be missed at the University. We need more people here who can sit down with an almost complete stranger in the dining hall and talk about flying elephants and poetry.
